City Council Candidate Petitions Available August 6

City Council Election Petition NewsFlash

The City of Steamboat Springs will release the nominating petition at 7:30am on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 for candidates seeking to run for the Steamboat Springs City Council. 

Four city council positions are open and will be voted upon during the regular election on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. These include:

District I................................. Expires November 2023
District II................................ Expires November 2023
District III............................... Expires November 2023
At-Large................................ Expires November 2021

Eligible candidates must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election. They must have resided in the municipality for a period of at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election, and must be a resident of the district that they will represent at the time the nomination petition is filed. The at-large candidate can reside anywhere within the city limits. 

Applicants must fill out a candidate affidavit and a nomination petition signed by at least 25 registered electors within their district.  The at-large petition may be signed by at least 25 registered electors from the entire city. Paperwork must be turned into City Hall on or before 5:30pm on August 26, 2019.

Current compensation for City Council members is $894.89 per month, President Pro-Tem receives $1,044.39 per month and the City Council President receives $1,191.81 per month along with the opportunity to participate in the city’s health benefits.  

The newly elected Council members shall take office at the first Regular City Council meeting following their election: Tuesday, November 12, 2019. During that same meeting, the President and President Pro-Tem are elected by the new council.
