There are 7 members of the Steamboat Springs City Council, representing constituents in all precincts of the City, including one "at large" Council member.

The City Council of Steamboat Springs serves its citizens through the development and implementation of plans and partnerships that provide quality facilities, services, and programs for a diverse, vibrant, and healthy community.

Vision Statement

City Council synthesizes the best of the past and the most sustainable of the present to enhance Steamboat Springs' unique sense of place and its vibrant and healthy community for the future.

Council Policies

  • Uphold the City of Steamboat Springs Code of Ethics.
  • Make decisions and recommendations based on research, facts, and careful listening, taking into consideration short-term and long term goals, competing community interests, and using measurable evaluation criteria whenever possible.
  • Provide City services to the community in a courteous, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Act in a fiscally responsible manner by following established financial policies.
  • Enhance communication within and throughout the community, staff, local and regional governments, and other organizations.
  • Foster new and existing partnerships that meet community needs.
  • Integrate the Steamboat Springs Area Community Plan in all aspects of community development.
  • Facilitate economic opportunities while protecting the natural environment, culture, community character and heritage.
  • Preserve open space and agricultural lands while integrating appropriate recreational opportunities whenever possible.
