Community InformationThe Ute Indians began visiting the area that is now Steamboat Springs Colorado hundreds of years ago. Europeans first traveled through the area in the early 1800s, naming the site after the chugging noise made by the local hot springs. The town itself was formed in 1884 by James Crawford. Today, Steamboat Springs is known around the world for its skiing, hot springs, and natural beauty. We are home to approximately 9,315 full-time residents, and host hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. These sites offer additional information about our town and the Yampa Valley:
