2011 Base Area Redevelopment (Promenade) Construction

Now in its fifth year, the Base Area Redevelopment Project construction for 2011 will extend the promenade and related amenities from the Burgess Creek north portal (completed in 2009) through Torian plaza, past the Sheraton and Gondola Square and terminating at One Steamboat Place. Work will also include the completion of the Grand Staircase, installation of the day lighted creek bed and enhancements, and widening of the sidewalks along the west side of the Torian garage access drive as well as in Ski Time Square. Work will begin in mid-April near the Torian and then move to the south end near One Steamboat Place once the ground is workable to build the Promenade and creek from there to the north.

The Base area including Gondola Square and Ski Time Square will continue to be open for business throughout the project. Additionally the Ski Area will be open for recreation save for the seasonal closures. In addition to the Urban Renewal Authority’s Promenade project, there are private property projects going on this summer as well. Mt. Werner Lodge will be replacing a roof, Torian is conducting work on their parking garage, and the Ski Area is replacing pavers in Gondola Plaza. With all this construction activity, please be cautious walking and riding around the construction zone. Follow all signs and any posted detours. Heavy equipment and construction operations will continue well into November.

As we move into our 5th year of the Base Area Improvements Project, the Duckels Construction team is excited to bring you up to date regarding tasks planned for this year’s work. Attend the weekly meetings in the Sheraton Daybreak Conference Room at 9 am every Thursday starting April 14 for current updates on construction and access. Everyone is welcome. This is a great opportunity to participate in a dialogue regarding all aspects of the project.

Pedestrian and vehicular access to businesses as well as free parking remain top priorities of the construction team and will be provided throughout the project. Maps will be distributed as in the past for you to provide to your guests as well as post on your websites.
On behalf of the construction team, we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this project.

We look forward to a successful construction season! Please feel free to communicate with us by contacting Lyn Halliday, Public Information Officer at lhalliday@environmentalsolutionllc.com or (970) 879-6323 or Janet Hruby, Project Manager (970) 871-7077.

Base Area Redevelopment Plan

The Base Area Redevelopment Plan - known as Steamboat Unbridled - is bringing a renaissance to the City of Steamboat Springs. It's anticipated that over 1 billion dollars of public and private funds will be leveraged to improve and revitalize the base area.

The project is being guided by the Urban Redevelopment Authority Advisory Committee reporting to the Steamboat Springs Urban Redevelopment Authority.

For the past 3 years, design and construction work has been funded through a bond issued through the SSRA.

Plans, documents, and standards are available in the documents section.
