The Records Division is managed by the Asst. to the Chief of Police. Staff consists of 1 Records Supervisor and 3 Records Technicians. A 4th Records Technician splits their time between Records and assisting the Evidence Technician. All Records staff have received certification through the Colorado Certified Records Network. They are the first employees that greet citizens seeking police assistance. They are able to direct people to most city services or summon immediate police help when necessary. They also handle the influx of phone calls that come into the Administration Office. The goals of the Steamboat Springs Records Management Division are to protect the accuracy, completeness, and privacy of criminal justice records held by this agency in accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes Article 72 including adult and juvenile records; maintaining a retention schedule for criminal justice records; access to critical information for investigators, administrators, officers, and the public; increase security of vital records; eliminate redundancy of information in electronic formats; improve classification of information; make better use of information technology; maximize effective and efficient public service; determine, analyze and improve the flow of work; and increase staff productivity.

Criminal Justice Records

Criminal justice records are available per state statute. To request a report copy click here. To request a records check click here. Please read the instructions completely and submit the correct fee (from the Fee Schedule) for your request. You can also obtain a paper application form for either request at the Police Department front desk Monday through Thursday, except for holidays, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There will be no faxing or emailing of criminal justice records.

Most requests require a day or two to research after administrative approval. Some reports may be withheld until investigation is complete, and most juvenile records are not releasable.
