Leash Law Discussion

dog-running.jpg

You are invited to join in on a community/public discussion regarding dog parks, off leash areas and voice and sight control evidence tag program areas at the City Council Meeting, Tuesday, August 3rd at 6:30 P.M. at Citizens Hall in Centennial Hall located at 124 10th Street.

City Council directed the Parks and Recreation Commission to work with the public, Responsible Dog Ownership Group of Steamboat (RDOGS), the staff at Police Services and Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services to discuss the leash law. A program with tiered options, which would include leash free areas within and upon certain City parcels, has been the focus of these discussions. Based on these public discussions, the tiered options have been refined and reviewed and advisory next steps will be discussed at this City Council meeting.

RDOGS instituted an off leash area program in November 2007 at Spring Creek and Rita Valentine Parks on selected days and times of the week in conjunction with a voice and sight control evidence tag program. In November 2008, it was requested and approved that the program be extended to include seven days a week, dawn to dusk.

If you can not attend, please email Parks and Recreation Commission with your thoughts and concerns to kstamp@steamboatsprings.net
