The Colorado Transportation Commission approved funding for two grant applications from the City of Steamboat Springs through the Colorado Department of Transportation FASTER program. The funds, totaling over $667,000, will be used to purchase two diesel/hybrid buses and to replace the deteriorated pavement at the Steamboat Springs Transit Center in 2012 and 2013.

In 2009 the General Assembly passed Senate Bill 09-108 also known as: Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery (FASTER). This legislation assessed a new motor vehicle registration fee which provided CDOT with funding for transit, safety improvements including construction, reconstruction or maintenance projects, repairing structurally deficient bridges and making important road safety improvements.

The City’s projects include purchase of two diesel/hybrid buses to replace older and aging buses in the fleet, as well as replacement of concrete pavement in the SST parking lot and yard which has deteriorated over time.
