Figure Skating

The Steamboat Skating Club is the skater's entry into the world of US Figure Skating testing, competing and performing, fun and friendships.  The Steamboat Skating Club offers many additional events including ice shows, exhibitions, parties and activities.

The coaching staff at Howelsen comes from all over and from just as varied a skating background.  Take a look at our coaching staff page on the Steamboat Skating Club website and contact our On-Ice-Director, Kelli Standekar if you have any questions.  Once on team, skaters often choose to add private instruction so they can work one-on-one to improve skills and learn programs for competitions.  To get set up with a coach of your choice, fill out the "Request for Private Instructor" form and drop it by the rink.  Coaches are contracted and paid directly by the skater.

Learn to Skate

The figure skating program at Howelsen Ice Arena begins with the Learn to Skate Program where the young and young at heart alike can learn beginning skills.  For more information or to sign up for an upcoming session, visit our Learn to Skate tab.

Intro to Figure Skating

Once a skater is proficient in the skills taught in the Learn to Skate Program, it is time for them to move on to the Steamboat Skating Club Intro to Figure Skating Class.  Here, skaters can further their skills with continued instruction and ice time set aside specifically for figure skaters.

Team Skaters

After graduating from Intro, skaters are invited to become a US Figure Skating Member and join our Steamboat Skating Club "Team" skaters.  These skaters train multiple days a week and compete across the state!  The Steamboat Skating Club lessons are taught using a group class format.  This unique approach to figure skating training encourages teamwork, builds a positive environment among skaters, and keeps costs low to keep skating accessible for everyone.
