Personal Information and Nondisclosure

"Personal information" is information about a natural person that is readily identifiable to that individual, such as an individual's name, address, telephone number, and personal financial information. Such personal information is generally exempt from disclosure. A domain name or Internet Protocol (IP) address is not considered personal information. Most information collected by state government is assumed to be open to the public unless specifically exempted.

Cookies

A cookie file is a small text file created by a web site on your computer hard drive that contains unique information the site can use to track such things as passwords, lists of pages you´ve visited, the date when you last looked at a specific page or to identify your session at a particular web site. Secure Transmission

General Traffic Monitoring

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this site may monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Information Collected About Your Browsing Session

  1. The Internet Protocol (IP) address and domain name used (but not the email address). The IP address is a numerical identifier assigned either to your Internet service provider or directly to your computer. We use the Internet IP to respond to your browser request. Example: 122.125.36.42;
  2. The Domain domain name (DNS) assigned on the Internet to your IP Address (if there is one). Example: somename.com;
  3. The type of browser and operating system you used.
  4. The date and time you visited this site;
  5. The web pages or services you accessed at this site; and
  6. The web site you visited prior to coming to this web site. (this is included so that analysis can be done on how visitors get to our site from a link on another site)

We do not track individual user navigation choices. We do, however, summarize the information listed above to determine:

  • what organizations are our most frequent users (item 2 above) to better target our content for the audience.
  • what browsers are being used on our site to determine what techniques we can use to develop pages that will work with different browsers (item 3 above).
  • how often our pages are being used (item 5 above).
  • by the traffic from organization names such things as the search engines that are good at directing people to the site (item 6 above)

Unsolicited Bulk Email (Spam)

City of Steamboat Springs does not authorize the use of its proprietary computers and computer network (the "City of Steamboat Springs Network") to accept, transmit or distribute unsolicited bulk email sent from the Internet to City of Steamboat Springs members. In addition, Internet email sent, or caused to be sent, to or through the City of Steamboat Springs Network that makes use of or contains invalid or forged headers, invalid or non-existent domain names or other means of deceptive addressing will be deemed to be counterfeit. Any attempt to send or cause such counterfeit email to be sent to or through the City of Steamboat Springs Network is unauthorized. Similarly, email that is relayed from any third party's mail servers without the permission of that third party, or which employs similar techniques to hide or obscure the source of the email, is also an unauthorized use of the City of Steamboat Springs Network. City of Steamboat Springs does not authorize anyone to send email or cause email to be sent to the City of Steamboat Springs Network that violates City of Steamboat Springs' Terms of Service. City of Steamboat Springs does not authorize the harvesting or collection of screen names from the City of Steamboat Springs service for the purpose of sending unsolicited email. City of Steamboat Springs reserves the right to take all legal and technical steps available to prevent unsolicited bulk email or other unauthorized email from entering, utilizing or remaining within the City of Steamboat Springs Network. Nothing in this policy is intended to grant any right to transmit or send email to, or through, the City of Steamboat Springs Network. City of Steamboat Springs' failure to enforce this policy in every instance in which it might have application does not amount to a waiver of City of Steamboat Springs' rights. Unauthorized use of the City of Steamboat Springs Network in connection with the transmission of unsolicited bulk email, including the transmission of counterfeit email, may result in civil and criminal penalties against the sender.
