City Council Work Sessions Modified For 2022

Work Session NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-December 28, 2021-Starting in the new year, City Council will make a change to the way the dais conducts work sessions, which are typically held the second Tuesday of the month.

“Work sessions are the time for council to dive into larger issues as a group,” said Steamboat Springs City Council President Robin Crossan. “We want the group to be able to actively discuss philosophies, views and possible direction around the subject in an informal setting.”

When City Council holds its first work session on January 11, the meeting will start at 5pm and be in either the Crawford or Carver meeting room in Centennial Hall. Since the work session is in one of the smaller rooms, it will not be televised on TV6/Comcast but available online via Zoom or in person.

Work sessions provide opportunities for councilmembers to study difficult issues, gather and analyze information, clarify problems, and provide staff direction. These meetings ensure council can discuss topics among the group and work through various ideas or suggestions in how to deal with the issue or reach informal consensus on a path forward.

The first work session of 2022 will focus on Council Goals/Priorities, DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) and the Mountain Area Master Plan. The 2022 Schedule sees work sessions on the following dates:

  • January 11, 2022
  • February 8, 2022
  • March 8, 2022
  • April 12, 2022
  • May 10, 2022
  • June 14, 2022
  • July 12, 2022
  • September 13, 2022
  • December 13, 2022

As part of the new format, public comment will no longer be taken during the work session. However, citizens can email city council their thoughts via the city website or make a public comment when a work session topic appears on a regular city council meeting agenda (1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month).
