03 March 2022 Final Sales Tax Report

The City of Steamboat Springs has published the Final March 2022 Sales, Use, Accommodation Tax Report (See the Report) and the March 2022 Mountain Communities Tax Report (See the Report). 

The March 2022 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 34.38% higher compared to the March 2021 collections or an increase of $1,221,108. Year-to-date sales tax collection is 35.88% more than year to date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, March collections represent about 11% of annual collections. 

When comparing this March to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in lodging & amenities at 64.51%, and restaurants at 39.84%, and sporting goods at 33.70% over last March. Increases in collections by area were seen across all geographical areas on which we report data. 

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. March collections were up 65.15% compared to the same period last year.  

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. March net use tax collections total $950,966.
