STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 12, 2022-Vehicle #100 might looks like most other city vehicles except this car is bringing a new surge that is charging up the city’s fleet with the municipalities’ first electric vehicle (EV), sporting the city seal as well as the Spur Change logos.
“We’ve been anxiously waiting on the arrival of this special car for some time,” commented Fleet Superintendent Jason Weber. “We look forward to incorporating more EVs into the city’s fleet in the future.”
The All-Electric 2022 Chevy Bolt EV accommodates up to five passengers and gets an estimated 259 miles on a full charge. It comes with an 8-inch diagonal graphic display which shares vital information on range impacts, efficiency, and energy flow. The 200 hp car utilizes an 11.5kW Level 2 charging system.
The city installed a new EV charging port behind Centennial Hall in advance of the Bolt’s arrival. The EV will be dedicated to Planning & Community Development including code enforcement staff. Twelve EV charging stations are spread across the city including the area’s first high-speed electric vehicle charging station at the Kum & Go. The Northwest region has seen several EV charging stations come online in the recent year.
“With the adoption of the EV Readiness Plan, sharing EV educational seminars, and hosting several ride & drive events, this is just another step in the city’s desire to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions,” commented IGS & Special Project Manager Winnie DelliQuadri. “We hope this is just the first of many EV’s in the city’s future.”
#100 joins other recent EV arrivals like Parks & Recreation’s Toro Workman GTX utility vehicles (4x4) as well as SST’s long-standing tradition with its diesel/electric hybrid buses. In addition, Parks & Rec used a grant to purchase several e-bikes for crews to access park and open space areas. While you likely won’t hear the EV Bolt, we hope to make a lot of noise with the next EV Ride & Drive event scheduled for September 18.
