STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 31, 2023-Upcoming storm sewer upgrades will require a closure of 11th Street to motor vehicles between Lincoln Avenue/US40 to the alley north on
the street for approximately seven to 12 days starting Monday, September 11, 2023.
The project involves replacing an undersized and crumbling storm sewer line around the new downtown Fire Station & City Hall.
Vehicles looking to access 11th Street north of the alley, should use 12th Street to Oak Street to 11th. Crews will establish a turnaround zone for motorists so they can return to Oak Street.
The preliminary underground work associated with the capital project is being conducted in conjunction with other projects and often results in closures occurring simultaneously.
For example, Oak Street between 11th and 10th is currently closed for the Soda Creek Bridges Rehabilitation project. However, the pedestrian/bicycle lane through the Soda Creek work site is expected to reopen tomorrow, Friday, September 1.
The project team has reached out to businesses and impacted properties on 11th Street ahead of the planned closure. Access to businesses will remain open and maintained. A pedestrian walkway on the west side of 11th Street will permit foot traffic along the edge of the impacted area.
Storm sewer infrastructure is intended to carry drainage from roads, gutters, parking lots, buildings, and other impervious surfaces to the river in a way that minimizes flooding.
