[ARCHIVED] New Howelsen Skate Park Improvements Finalized

Skate Park NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-February 10, 2023-The new Howelsen Skate Park project is underway after the Skate Park Steering Committee concluded its series of meetings. After a month-long process, the features for the new skate park have been identified and crews are set to drop in on production later this summer.

The Skate Park Steering Committee was comprised of a diverse group of the local skateboarding community which met several times to guide the process. The committee included a combination of adults representing various local organizations, as well as local youth ranging from Elementary to High School students, as well as Parks & Recreation staff.

American Ramp Company, a leading skate park designer, worked with the group to envision, plan and conceptualize the flow of the new park.

In addition, Pro skateboarders and designers Cody McEntire and Julia Brueckler collaborated in imagining and laying out a combination of features that maximized the space and met the requirements and desires outlined by the committee.

The updated park will include over 40 features and incorporates numerous state-of-the-art elements including ramps, rails, boxes, ledges, and stairs.

Funding for the redevelopment was obtained through the city’s annual Capital Improvement Projects budget process. The tentative schedule is to decommission the existing Howelsen Skate Park in mid-August and then begin installation of the new features in early September.
