STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 30, 2023-April showers bring May flowers, but April Coffee with Council brings hot conversation that pours over three pressing community topics coming up during City Council’s work session on April 11.
Join available City Councilors for Coffee with Council scheduled for Thursday, April 6 from 7:30am to 8:30am in the Carver Room of Centennial Hall (124 10th Street). The April flavor looks at Affordable Housing Strategies-Part 1, Metro District 101, and Repurposing the Accommodation Tax.
During Coffee with Council, councilors are looking to gauge the community’s taste buds for a robust discussion (no presentations) on each of these topics and solicit individual’s opinions before the work session the following week.
- Affordable Housing Strategies-Part 1 will review estimates of current housing and needs and future demand and provide guidance on the upcoming Housing Opportunities Strategic Plan that will establish Short-Term Rental Tax Fund goals, governance, and funding priorities.
- Metro District 101 takes a first look at understanding this type of special district. Metro districts are independent governmental entities formed to finance, design, acquire, install, construct, operate and/or maintain public improvements that are not otherwise being provided.
- Accommodation Tax Repurposing continues the discussion from this past December & January on possible ballot language in 2023 to repurpose the 1% accommodation tax. Council has previously identified using this for maintenance of city facilities.
First started in 2013, the goal of the program is to provide an opportunity for community members to meet with councilors in a relaxed atmosphere and discuss current issues. The success of this program is the open discussion and while not everyone always agrees, the group is able to discuss these important issues together and in a respectable way.
After the April edition, Coffee with Council is scheduled for May 4, and June 8, before council transitions to their summer booth at Mainstreet Steamboat’s Farmers Market.
