Standard Specifications NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-January 4, 2024-The City of Steamboat Springs Utility Division released the new Water & Wastewater Standard Specifications that will apply to all water and wastewater projects moving forward in the New Year.

“It’s our intention to complete more frequent updates to accommodate an ever-changing world of design standards and construction techniques,” said Distribution & Collection Manager Michelle Carr. “We sincerely appreciate the valuable input provided from across the community during our outreach efforts that lead to the final specifications.”

The 2023 Standards Specification for Water & Wastewater are effective as of January 1, 2024, for all water and wastewater projects located within the City of Steamboat Springs utility service area. These standards will not apply to projects within the Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District service area.

The specifications establish the minimum standards for the design, modification, abandonment, and construction of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities with the City of Steamboat Springs utility service area.

As the city transitions from previous standards to the new 2023 updated standards, a few projects will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the appropriate set standards that will apply. In general, the 2023 standards document will NOT apply to projects with an active building or utility permit issued before January 1, 2024; or a permit application submitted in CityView before January 1, 2024.

“If you plan on performing water or sewer related work within the city’s utility district, please familiarize yourself with these specifications to ensure your project flows smoothly,” continued Carr. “Of course, any project manager can reach out directly to the utility team if there are questions or clarification is needed.”

The city worked with Ulteig to develop the 2023 Water & Wastewater Standard Specifications. Since 1944, Ulteig has been a leader in the engineering industry, working as a partner to organizations, like the City of Steamboat Springs, entrusted with the task of building, maintaining, and revitalizing infrastructure such as power, renewables, transportation, and water.
