Brown Ranch NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-February 26, 2024-All active voters within the City of Steamboat Springs will be mailed a Special Election Ballot on Monday, March 4, 2024, and should arrive in mailboxes by March 11, to decide if they support or reject the annexation agreement ordinance passed by City Council. Election Day for the city’s Special Election is Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

The special election is asking electors of the City of Steamboat Springs the following question:

"Shall the City of Steamboat Springs ("City") adopt Ordinance No. 2933 to annex approximately four hundred twenty acres of real property owned by the Yampa Valley Housing Authority ("YVHA") and known as Brown Ranch for the purpose of developing affordable and attainable housing in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Annexation Agreement between the City and YVHA dated Oct. 17, 2023?   ”

Yes                                    No

During the Special Mail Ballot Election, voter services will be available from city offices at 124 10th Street from 8am to 5pm, weekdays from 7am to 7pm on Election Day, March 26. Services include voter registration assistance, disabled access voting assistance, ballots for newly registered voters, and replacement ballots. The City Hall main entrance is accessible from 10th Street with parking in the parking lot north of Oak/10th Streets as well as along Oak and on adjacent streets. A handful of close-in parking spaces behind the City Hall can be accessed from the alley between 9th & 10th Streets.

Replacement ballots will be available at the City offices for anyone who has not received their ballot and is eligible to vote.   Additionally, voters who will be out of town or are otherwise unable to wait for their initial ballot to be delivered, can request a replacement ballot by phone or in-person through the City Clerk’s Office. These requests can be made now through March 18; the deadline to have a ballot mailed. Voters should plan accordingly.  Please be aware that ballots cannot be forwarded by the US Post Office per Colorado law.

New voters who moved to the city before March 5, but who wish to vote in this special election, must visit the city offices to register and receive a ballot. Due to the presidential primary election at the state level, run by Routt County, registrations made using govotecolorado.gov will not be updated until after the city's special election.

Ballots must be returned to the City of Steamboat Springs by 7pm on March 26, 2024. Voters can mail, drop off at City Hall or use the secure 24-hour ballot drop box behind the downtown Routt County Historic Courthouse (522 Lincoln Ave) starting March 7, 2024. The ballot box is accessible from 6th Street via the alley behind the building.
