Water Shut Off NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 23, 2023-As part of the new Downtown Fire Station and City Hall project, construction crews will need to shut off water service to a portion of Oak Street starting at 10pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

A picture containing LEGO, toyDescription automatically generatedCrews will be installing new waterlines which will tie the new downtown Fire Station into the city water system. Water will be shut off for an estimated four-hours staring at 10pm on Tuesday, August 23. The affected area included properties along Oak Street from 9th to 11th Streets, 11th Street from Lincoln to Oak, two locations on Pine Street, and one on Lincoln Avenue.

Properties Impacted

  • 9th Street – 207
  • 10th Street – 124 (City Hall)
  • 11th Street – 127, 131, 135 & Old West Plaza Units
  • Pine Street – 1043, 1053
  • Oak Street – 912, 912.5, 919, 927, 928, 934, 942, 944, 1008 & 1016
  • Lincoln Avenue - 1036

The scheduled timeframe was specifically selected after outreach to local properties including several restaurants in the area to minimize the impacts during the planned work. Night operations bring additional safety requirements such as increased lighting for work crews. Properties adjacent to the site should anticipate accompanying noise associated with the work.

Once water service is returned, property owners may experience a discoloration in the water, which is due to the change in the hydraulic regime within the pipes causing sediment from the bottom of the pipes to be kicked up into the water. The turbidity, although aesthetically unpleasing, is not harmful if ingested.

If discoloration is experienced, property owners should run the cold water from a bathtub to help clear up the water. If water does not clear up within 15 minutes of running cold water, shut off water and wait for 30 to 60 minutes before attempting to clear the line again. Additional water quality questions and concerns should be directed to Distribution & Collection Supervisor Brian Morse.
