[ARCHIVED] Ski Season End Brings Start of Ski Time Square Construction

STS NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 15, 2024-The Ski Time Square Drive Public Turnaround and Complete Streets Improvements Project will commence major construction activities later this month, just after the close of the ski season.

“This project has been in the works since 2019,” said Civil Engineer Danny Paul. “It is supported by surrounding property owners who dedicated temporary and permanent easements to make this enhancement possible.”

This highly anticipated project will formalize Ski Time Square Drive, upgrade the streetscape with new snowmelt sidewalks and upgraded landscaping and improve vehicular circulation with a new public turnaround at the end of the public right of way.

The project’s general contractor, Native Excavating, will start mobilization this week, followed by construction activities commencing next week, April 22. The city has hired a construction manager, JG Hanson Construction Management, to oversee the construction phase and act a liaison with local businesses.

Construction is expected to progress through the summer and fall, with substantial completion expected around the beginning of November 2024. Initial work will be concentrated on deep and shallow utilities which will last through the month of June.

During construction there will be no on-street public parking available along Ski Time Square Drive. The nearby Torian Plum parking garage will be available for people wishing to access the businesses and residential units on the Torian Plum campus. Access through the site and to surrounding properties and businesses will remain open at all times; however, motorists should expect delays when traveling through the work zone. Ski Time Square properties and businesses are anticipated to operate as traditionally done throughout this construction component.

The city will host biweekly public information meetings every other Thursday at 9am starting April 25 in the Torian Plum Creekside meeting room and virtually. A link to the virtual option is available on the project webpage at EngageSteamboat.net/SkiTime.

Designed by local firm Baseline Engineering, this project is funded by the Steamboat Springs Redevelopment Authority (SSRA) and has long been a high priority for the SSRA and its advisory committee, the Urban Redevelopment Authority Advisory Committee.
