Steamboat Springs, Colorado-April 13, 2026-Community members may notice an increased law enforcement presence near 12th and Yampa Street on Wednesday, April 15, as the NWCO SWAT Team conducts scheduled training exercises.
“Exercises like this are critical for ensuring our preparedness and protecting the safety of our community,” said Commander Griffin. “We appreciate the community’s support and understanding as we work together to build a safer Steamboat Springs.”
The SWAT training will take place in and around the former Double Z building (1124 Yampa Street) and run from approximately 1:00pm and 10:00pm.
Residents and visitors in the area may see tactical personnel, specialized vehicles, and simulated law enforcement activity throughout the day and evening.
While the activity may appear significant, it is part of a planned, controlled training environment.
Real-world, scenario-based training like this is a critical component of preparing emergency responders to effectively and safely respond to high-risk situations. Utilizing existing structures provides a valuable opportunity to conduct realistic exercises that strengthen coordination, communication, and response capabilities.
The public is encouraged to avoid the immediate training area to allow personnel to safely conduct these exercises.
The Northwest Colorado SWAT team is a regional unit that supports local law enforcement agencies in handling high-risk incidents with precision, discipline, and advanced tactical expertise. It is comprised of members from several agencies across the region.
