Steamboat Springs, Colorado-May 26, 2026-The rhythmic sound of runners’ feet will echo across the Yampa Valley on Sunday, June 7, as thousands of participants take on the scenic course of the 45th Steamboat Marathon, Haf Marathon, and 10K.
The running of the Steamboat Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K winds alongside the roaring Elk River on Country Road 129, weaving through emerald pastures beneath the snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains. As the event celebrates its 45th anniversary, this year’s race is more than just a run through one of Colorado’s most breathtaking landscapes. It’s a celebration of the generations of runners, volunteers, sponsors, and community members who have shown up year after year to keep this beloved tradition alive.
For over four decades, the Steamboat Marathon has brought people together in the Yampa Valley, creating memories, milestones, and a finish line experience that continues to stand the test of time. The event continues to honor the spirit of endurance, community, and connection that has made it a cornerstone tradition for locals and visitors alike.
As all races finish downtown, the event will require street closures and traffic detours throughout the day on Sunday, with impacts beginning early in the morning and continuing into the afternoon.
In downtown Steamboat Springs, westbound lanes of Lincoln Avenue will be closed from 5th to 12th Streets for the finish of all races and racers’ safety. Vehicle traffic will be split (one in each direction) in the two lanes normally designated for eastbound traffic on US40.
In addition, a rolling closure on 5th Street from Lincoln to Oak will be encountered Sunday morning, between 6am and 1pm, for the 10K start. 6th Street between Lincoln Avenue and Oak Street will also be closed (6am to 3pm) for the Vendors Expo and race activities.
When traveling Routt County Road 129 (Elk River Road), anticipate numerous runners, support vehicles and emergency apparatus on the road and please slow down and give ample room when passing.
Road closures and detours will be in place on County Road 129 during the event. Northbound traffic will be shifted just past RCR 44 into a detour route via 44A to 52E, where drivers will wait for a pilot car to continue north on CR 129. Southbound traffic will be rerouted at 52E via 44A and 42 to Highway 40. The section of CR 129 from 52E south to Elk River Road at Games Trails Drive will be fully closed to all non-event traffic and restricted to marathon participants and authorized vehicles only. Traffic control personnel will be on site to assist with detours and closures.
Plenty of opportunities exist for community members to volunteer during the weekend and registration to help is available online.
